Everything Begins Somewhere

Our Story unfolds…

…beneath the icy waters of the Kali-Gandaki River, one of the three rivers that feed the sacred Ganges River of India. From the heart of Muktinath Mountain in Nepal, this river emerges, cascading through 108 bull-faced spouts, known as Mukti Dharas. Muktinath Temple, a 2,000-year-old sanctuary perched above the clouds, is a place of profound spiritual significance. It is revered as a unique and peaceful site of multicultural prayer and devotion.

Muktinath is considered the celestial abode of both Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation and salvation, and Avalokiteśvara, the Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion and virtue. The site also hosts the eternal flame of Jwala Mai, goddess of fire, and embodies the harmony of the five elements—fire, water, sky, earth, and air—symbolizing the universe’s material essence. According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rimpoche, meditated here on his journey to Tibet. Muktinath, or Chumig Gyatsa (or a hundred waters), is associated with dakinis (or sky dancers) and is considered one of the twenty-four Tantric sites.

At an altitude of 3,800 meters, Muktinath stands as one of the highest temples in the world, hidden amidst the clouds.

The air is crisp and thin, and the sacred atmosphere is thick with the reverent whispers of countless pilgrims who have sought its divine blessings. As you walk breathlessly beneath the 108 Mukti Dharas, the icy water cascades over you with a shocking, invigorating force. Each drop feels like a divine touch, slicing through the layers of your being and reaching deep into your soul. The mountain water transcends the physical, igniting a profound spiritual awakening deep within.

As the water’s chill penetrates beyond the skin, it sweeps away accumulated burdens and karmic bindings, stirring a powerful sense of liberation and renewal. The ritual becomes a moment of deep connection with divine forces of freedom and purification. Here, amidst the clouds and snow, the ancient belief in the water’s power to offer profound cleansing and karmic release becomes vividly real, almost visceral. Time seems to stop, and the space of transcendence becomes tangible in the here and now.

The belief in this sacred act’s ability to cleanse not just your own karma but that of your seven-generation lineage adds a profound sense of purpose to the experience. The intense, transformative purity is followed by a profound feeling of euphoria and extraordinary bliss. In this sacred space, you feel a deep union with the divine forces of the universe, and a profound sense of divine self emerges from within, unlocking spiritual transformation that opens you to a life of power, purpose, and connection.

Moved by this extraordinary experience of spiritual liberation, Sierra North returned home to establish the Muktinath Holistic Center—a sanctuary dedicated to the healing of body, mind, and spirit, and to the attainment of Mukti, or spiritual freedom and enlightenment. Drawing upon ancient wisdom and teachings of karma, and the many pathways to liberation, the Muktinath Holistic Center's mission is to guide individuals in transcending their spiritual burdens by gently lifting them to a higher vibrational state of being.  It strives to illuminate the path to deeper self-realization and the discovery of the extraordinary bliss that can be found in each breath and in every moment.

Sierra’s soul purpose extends beyond personal transformation to creating awareness that we all hold the capacity of deep and profound connection with Mother Earth. She fosters compassion for all beings by strengthening our bond with animal and nature spirits and sharing the ancient shamanic traditions. Through this sacred knowledge, she helps us recognize and align with the rhythms of the heartbeat of all living things, nurturing a deeper, holistic connection with the world around us.

Meaning of Muktinath

In Sanskrit, "Muktinath" (मुक्तिनाथ) is a blend of two words: "Mukti" (मुक्ति), meaning "liberation" or "freedom," and "Natha" (नाथ), meaning "lord" or "master." Thus, "Muktinath" can be translated as "The Lord of Liberation" or "The Master of Freedom."

The term embodies the concept of a sacred place that grants spiritual liberation or the attainment of moksha. In this context:

  1. Mukti (मुक्ति) refers to spiritual liberation or the ultimate freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth.

  2. Nath (नाथ) signifies a divine protector or deity who grants this liberation.

Thus, "Muktinath" represents a divine sanctuary where devotees seek and attain spiritual freedom and enlightenment.
